11TH NEPOMAK WORLD CONFERENCE TAKES PLACE UNDER SHADOW OF 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ILLEGAL INVASION OF CYPRUS BY TURKEY
NEPOMAK held its 11th World Conference from 30 July – 2 August 2024 in Nicosia, Cyprus. NEPOMAK members travelled to take part in the conference to discuss ideas for the organisation, hear important updates from Cypriot Government officials and have the opportunity to come together around common values and shared Cypriot identity. The conference coincided with the POMAK-PSEKA Central Council meeting, NEPOMAK’s parent bodies.

The conference took place the week after the 50th anniversary of the illegal invasion and ongoing occupation of Cyprus by Turkey on 20 July 1974. This tragic anniversary meant that much of the time and focus of conference sessions was spent on the Cyprus issue, reflecting on the past and thinking of new methods to raise awareness of the illegal occupation of Cyprus and campaign for a free, united Cyprus.
In the evenings, delegates took part in a variety of activities including an exhibition of photos from the invasion in 1974, a guided walking tour of Nicosia old town, and traditional taverna dinners. The POMAK, PSEKA and NEPOMAK delegates were also hosted for a drinks reception one evening by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides (pictured above).
During the conference, a new Executive Council was elected for the term 2024-26.
